King's Somborne C of E Primary School

Love - Trust - Hope - Joy

PSHE

We believe that PSHE helps to give pupils the knowledge, skills, empathy and understanding that they need to lead confident, healthy, independent and inclusive lives. The intent of our PSHE curriculum is to help our children to become informed, active and responsible citizens - global ambassadors for positive change. Elements of this seen in practice include our Copper Coin Collection for UNICEF, our Clean Crisp Collection to support the homeless, our Ukraine Appeal, as well as the countless efforts of our pupils to to both empathise with, and be there for one another, in school.

Our PSHE curriculum will equip pupils with a sound understanding of risk and with the knowledge and skills necessary to make safe and informed decisions. To implement this, we adopt the HeartSmart approach to PSHE. HeartSmart is a creative approach to building character, emotional health and resilience in children. Equipping children with foundational principles and skills that will improve their mental health, relationships and academic achievement will help our children to thrive, both at King's Somborne C of E and in their lives.  We recognise the value of educating the heart alongside educating the mind, and believe in the power of our children, and their capacity to influence positive change - both now and in the future. Our PSHE curriculum is linked with our Christian Values (Love, Trust, Hope and Joy), our relationship and sex education (RSE) and our focus on Wellbeing, as led by our Wellbeing Team and Wellbeing Council.

By embedding our inclusive ethos, and encouraging our children to aspire for more, the impact of our curriculum is that it helps our children to grow in a host of different ways; academically, emotionally, creatively, socially and spiritually. It supports them in expressing their opinions, learning and applying new skills, and developing their knowledge; all in a meaningful context that can be applied or compared to their own lives. Our PSHE curriculum will enable our children to thrive, and support each and every one of them in achieving their potential.

Our curriculum inspires curiosity, enables our children to aspire for more, and supports them in becoming resilient learners
