Robins

Hello Robin Class! Welcome back - we are so looking forward to introducing you to our new Learning Adventures, and exploring some fantastic people, places and topics this year! Have a look at our Autumn 1 Newsletter to see what we will be up to over the weeks ahead.

Saints Stadium Trip

A small number of children from Robins class were chosen out of a hat to visit the St Mary Stadium in Southampton to take part in a variety of activities led by the Saints coaches. We played Handball, Netball, Dodgeball and football. We also took part in a variety of athletics activities including long jump, relay races and a throwing activity.
The children who went on the trip showed wonderful sportsmanship and truly showed how wonderful we are at King's Somborne.

Cricket Fun!

We have been enjoying playing cricket with Ed during our PE sessions this term. We have practiced our throwing and catching ready for bowling and fielding. Then we got to experience batting!

Dandelions here, Dandelions there, Dandelions everywhere!

In Science, we have been exploring plants as part of our Roots and Shoots learning adventure. One of the first things we thought about was how dandelions changed. We explored the dandelion life cycle and learnt that the flowers close up at night time! We then went on a dandelion walk to find as many dandelions as possible. We saw dandelions are various stages of their cycle as well as some that are printed around the school.

Oo la la!

During our Art learning, we explored silhouette artwork. We explored our book Paris Up, Up and away which had some beautiful papercut designs. We created our own Paris scene to attach a beautiful Cricut Eiffel Tower (Thank you Mrs Jarvis!)

Don't they just look fab!

Robins dance off!

We have had a great time learning lots of dance moves with Ed. We have developed our skills and worked on creating a dance performance as a group.
We were lucky enough to have a sunny day to be able to perform these outside with lots of space. The performances were fab!

Looking snug for World Book Day!

We had a fabulous day on Thursday celebrating World Book Day. We made sure we were nice and snug in our comfies and enjoyed stories and hot chocolate in the Yurt.

We're ready for exploring!

We have spent time over the last few weeks designing and making our own Mars Rovers! We looked at previous Mars Rovers and used elements from these in our designs. We had to be super careful when cutting the dowel using a hacksaw.
Look at our marvellous creations - which do you think would be best for exploring Mars?

Welcome to our universe!

We spent some time creating our own planets during our art learning. Which planet would you like to visit?

Strange Happenings!

On 6th January 2022, a strange object was spotted on our school premises. Robins investigated the crash site... have a look at our findings!

Advent service

Still image for this video
We had a lovely time at the Advent service where we were able to visit the church for the first time in a long time. We loved being able to sing our Christmas songs and we all thought Eagles did a wonderful job at presenting the service.

Sshh... we are reading!

Remembrance Service

We felt so honoured to be able to partake in the Two Minutes silence on Remembrance Day to remember the soldiers who have fought or are fighting for us. We spent time creating amazing Remembrance inspired artwork as well as thoughtful and emotive poems some of which we were able to share to the rest of the school and the community during the Remembrance service. What a special moment that was to be with the members of the King's Somborne community.

Peg Soldiers

Look at Robins rock! We had a great time using our careful observation skills to look at the properties of different rocks.

Samba Time!

Exploring our Environment!
