Working Towards Becoming a School of Sanctuary

At King's Somborne C of E Primary School, we believe that every child should feel welcomed, valued and safe. We champion and celebrate both diversity and inclusion in our world. As a Church school, our Christian vision encourages us to show compassion, kindness and respect to all people, celebrating the dignity and worth of every individual.

We are proud to be working towards becoming a School of Sanctuary. This journey helps our children develop a deeper understanding of the experiences of people seeking refuge, whilst encouraging them to become thoughtful global citizens and ambassadors for positive change.

Our commitment is reflected in the learning, fundraising and community activities that take place across the school. Last year, our Nativity production, Refuge, explored themes of welcome, belonging and hope. Pupils also took part in a successful Walk for Refugees, raising hundreds of pounds to support people displaced by conflict and hardship.

The values that underpin a School of Sanctuary are woven throughout our school. Our Wellbeing Council actively explores ways to make the world a better, fairer and kinder place for everyone. Our Climate Club encourages children to take positive action for the environment and to consider their responsibilities as global citizens. House Captains and Play Leaders look for practical ways to support those who may be vulnerable, helping to ensure that every child feels included, cared for and part of our community. Through fundraising activities, our Worship Leaders regularly support a variety of local, national and international charities, whilst striving to be positive role models for others.

Through these experiences, we aim to nurture children who are compassionate, informed and courageous; young people who understand that they can make a positive difference in the world around them. We are committed to ensuring that every child and family who joins our school community receives a warm welcome and knows that they belong. As we continue our journey towards becoming a School of Sanctuary, we seek to equip our pupils to become rounded, responsible and aspirational citizens who will contribute positively to the wider world.
