We would like to thank all parents and carers who took the time to complete our recent PSHE and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) consultation. We were delighted to receive such thoughtful and constructive feedback, which has helped us review and refine our policy for the coming year. The updated RSE Policy has now been approved and is in place, taking account of the views shared by our parent community.

A number of key themes emerged from the consultation. Some parents told us they would value receiving more information about the PSHE and RSE curriculum, particularly the content taught in Years 5 and 6. In response, we will provide clearer information about the topics being covered and continue to communicate with families before specific RSE units are taught. These will be shared in each curriculum newsletter, with class gathers open to providing any further information s required. Similarly, our coverage and progression of skills have been added to our policy for parents to be able to access them easily. 

Parents also highlighted the importance of teaching children about healthy relationships, consent, emotional wellbeing, resilience, online safety and responsible use of social media. We are pleased that these areas already form a significant part of our PSHE curriculum and will continue to be developed to help children stay safe, healthy and well prepared for life in modern Britain. 

The consultation showed strong support for the teaching of age-appropriate sex education in the upper primary years. Several parents emphasised the importance of lessons being factual, sensitive and age appropriate. We fully agree with this approach and will continue to deliver our curriculum in a way that is carefully planned, professionally taught and rooted in statutory guidance.
